Project: Excluded People’s Rights in Bangladesh (EPR)
Location: Bhandarkot Union, Batiaghata Upazila, Khulna.
Story Details
Bhandarkot Union is one of the seven unions in Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district. On the east side of this union is Bagerhat district which separates Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district by Pashur river and on the west Kharsrota Kazibachha river which separates Bhandarkot union from Batiaghata union. Shialidanga Community Clinic is located in Ward 4, 5 and 6 of Vanderkot Union but most of the people of this village get health care from this clinic as it is close to Noaltala Village Clinic in Ward 3 but the condition of drinking water in this area is very critical. When KMSS's EPR project started its activities, Vanderkot Union chose it as their area of work. Due to this, the CSG members of Bhandarkot Union conducted social audit of Shialidanga CC as there were various problems in the health services. In addition to the various health care issues during this social audit, there is a demand from both the service recipient and the service provider - "Safe water is essential for accessing and providing services". So a topic of social scrutiny was the placement of a deep tub-well next to the CC of Shialidanga.
During the exchange of views and planning meeting with the local authorities on the issue, the president of the clinic, UP member, promised to present the issue at the UDCC meeting of the union council and set up a dub tube-well. So the HCMC committee members worked together to set up a deep tub-well in front of the clinic and from then on the long-term safe water hopes of the service providers and service recipients of that clinic were fulfilled. And now the area's service recipients and CSG members have thanked the EPR project and said "the locals will remember the benefit you have done".
